Sometimes choosing carpet and flooring can feel daunting when you only renovate every few years. At Eastern Flooring Solutions in Ringwood, we explain the technical ratings and subfloor requirements clearly during your showroom visit or free on-site measure.
ACCS Carpet Grading System
Carpets in Australia are classified under the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS) according to their durability and appearance retention:
- Residential Gradings (Yellow & Blue Labels): Identify carpets tested and graded for residential homes, up to a maximum 6-star Extra Heavy Duty rating (including stairs).
- Contract / Commercial Gradings (Gold & Black Labels): Identify carpets graded for commercial offices, retail, and high-traffic environments, up to a 4-star Contract rating.
- Many ranges stocked in our Ringwood showroom carry both Residential and Contract ratings.
Hard Flooring Wear Layers, AC Ratings & Subfloors
- Hybrid Flooring: Rigid-core (SPC) boards with a commercial-grade wear layer and pre-attached acoustic underlay. Requires a flat, sound subfloor (usually within 3mm over 2m).
- Laminate Flooring: Rated under the European AC (Abrasion Criteria) system (such as AC4 or AC5) for scratch and wear resistance in dry living areas and bedrooms.
- Engineered Timber Flooring: Genuine hardwood wear layer bonded to a stable multi-layer core, installed either direct-stick (glued) or floated over acoustic underlay.
- Vinyl Plank & Sheet Vinyl: Available in loose-lay, click-lock, direct-stick luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and commercial sheet vinyl formats.
